Aftercare & Maintenance

Maintenance is essential to keeping your natural hair in the healthiest condition and to make sure you are taking care of your hair correctly. This is to maintain the quality of your hair extensions so that they last you a long time.

The recommended time for each method is different, your technician will advise you on when you should be having the extensions maintained. This will depend on your natural hair and lifestyle. At your maintenance appointment your technician will take a look at your hair and scalp and reposition your extensions back to the root.

All hair types naturally shed between 50-100 hairs a day, this is why maintenance is important so that the build up of hair can be removed and the method can be reapplied. The strongest part of natural hair is the root area, this is where all our methods are applied to so they are not vulnerable.

Washing

Wash your hair extensions once or twice a week for best results with our very own creation Trés Chic – Hair Care. Other branded aftercare is also available to purchase in salon. If your extensions are newly fitted we advise to avoid washing for 48 hours. This will let your method of extensions settle in.

Shampoo Routine

  • With your shampoo massage on to your scalp and then wash out and repeat. This will get rid of all build up and make sure your hair is extra clean. There is no need to rub the shampoo into the extensions, just pop some on to your palm and smooth on to your extensions. Then rinse.

  • Grab a towel and lightly squeeze the excess water out. This will let the ingredients of the products used next to work its magic into the hair – as soaking wet hair will only dilute the product.

  • We always recommend to condition just the ends of your extensions, again, no need to vigorously rub, just smooth over the extensions. Then rinse.

  • Squeeze out excess water ready for your luxury hair mask – pop on to the ends of the extensions for 10 minutes this will work into the ends of the extensions with moisturising ingredients making it feel super soft and polish each and every strand. Use once or twice a week.

Extensions will hold product and water more than natural hair, therefore it will need a longer rinse. Make sure to squeeze out excess water before blow drying. If you would like to freshen up your natural hair, just grab the top section of hair which has no extensions in – clip this up and tie back your hair extensions – this will give you chance to wash your natural hair. Or dry shampoo can be used on your halo area.

Drying Routine

It is important to never leave the extensions to dry naturally. This could cause tangling or matting at the root area. Always blow dry with the correct brush. We would recommend to use a round bristle brush for best results.

  • Support the root area of your extensions to prevent pulling or tension and gently brush the ends, working your way up. You can leave your extensions to air dry for up to 10 minutes.

  • Grab your Trés Chic All In One Spray  - spray this evenly all over and brush through. Also apply a small amount to the palm of your hand of Trés Chic Argan Serum just to the ends of the extensions and your own hair.

  • Grab some clips. Always take small sections. Make sure to start from the bottom of the neck and work your way up to the top. Using a blow dry brush to glide over the extensions while drying, this will help make the ends look soft and sleek. When dried, pop your fingers through your root area to ensure the area is completely dried, this is to prevent matting.

Our ranges of extensions will blow dry straight and sleek. Finish off your blow dry with a small amount of Trés Chic Argan Serum and a spritz of shine spray. If wanting to style after blow drying – always use a product such as Trés Chic Heat Protection Spray before using hot styling tools. Try not to over use hot tools – extensions hold a style really well and if styled correctly at night will last you all week.

Brushing

Always use the correct brush – a Tangle Teezer or soft bristle brush are perfect for using on natural hair and extensions. Hold the root area and start from the bottom and work your way up this will prevent any tension.

Sleeping

Style your hair in a loose plait or ponytail while sleeping this will prevent any knotting. A silk scrunchie or invisibobble is best to use when sleeping. Never go to sleep with wet hair– this will cause the extensions to matt.

Colouring Your Hair Extensions

It is highly advised you do not colour your hair extensions – this has a risk of damage to the extensions and shortens the life span of them. If you are wanting to colour your hair its best to have the extensions removed and refitted at another date. A T-section can be done but it is highly recommended to avoid the extensions completely.

Going on holiday?

To ensure your extensions last it is best to take the correct aftercare with you abroad – we sell holiday products which you can purchase from the salon. Avoid getting your hair in the pool - the reason being your hair may react with chlorine creating discolouration to your extensions. Always wear your hair up this will help protect from the sun and the pool.
